It was my niece's first ever birthday at the weekend so she received her letterpress print from good old Uncle Chris. It's made using the wood type and the Albion press at Dekkle. It still amazes me how the simplest of designs using individual type can take a number of hours to get right. I wasn't happy with my choice of typefaces after a couple of proofs and then I needed to change the alignment and spacing after a couple more proofs. The whole process took around 3 hours to finish but it's well worth it.
The indentation that the letters leave and the inperfections on the faces of the type are what lifts the images above what you can produce on a computer. It also gets me away from my desk which is always a good thing.
If you're interested in getting one for your own niece, or indeed any other family member then get in touch.
